Bristol wedding band booking guide

We’re getting married in Bristol! Have your wedding bands played here much before?

Well, firstly, congratulations! Bristol is a cosmopolitan city with a thriving music scene and a plethora of trendy cafes and bars where your guests can sit and nurse their hangovers the morning after! Our bands have played in all areas of the city – including Clifton, Totterdown, Temple Meads, Redcliffe, Montpellier and Stoke Bishop – and also travel far beyond. Our Bristol bands for hire are hand-picked, so that you can be sure you’ll get fantastic wedding entertainment that your guests will remember long after the party has finished.

What style of music do your Bristol wedding bands play?

Our Bristol wedding bands tend to specialise in the biggest anthems of the last sixty years. 3-piece and 4-piece line-ups tend to focus on rock and pop music from Beatles and Buddy Holly to Coldplay, The Killers and Mumford and Sons, whilst line-ups including keyboards and brass sections allow them to perform soul and soul-infused pop music from Chaka Khan to Bruno Mars.

We want to give our wedding a more alternative sound. Do you have bands that can do that?

If your tastes aren’t all pop and R&B, fear not! How about hiring a wedding ceilidh band or a wedding jazz band? For more offbeat ideas, check out our alternative wedding bands.

We want music earlier in our day, not just the party. Can you help with that?

We can provide Bristol wedding music for every part of your special day, not just the evening wedding reception. Classical wedding musicians can make for a magical accompaniment during ceremonies, so why not hire a string quartet to accompany you whilst you walk down the aisle? For a more upbeat ambience at your drinks reception or wedding banquet, you could book a wedding singer.

Do we need to provide any equipment for the band?

Our Bristol wedding bands all come fully equipped for your event, though it’s worth getting in touch if you are expecting your event to exceed 250 guests, as extra equipment could be necessary. You just need to make sure that the band has a power source to plug in to and a space to perform! We recommend a flat and sheltered stage area of at least 3x3 meters for a 3-piece band – then add an extra metre squared per band member that you have booked. A raised stage is preferable for maximum impact but our bands are flexible to all kinds of spaces!

What kind of time should we plan for the band to perform?

We’re happy to work to your schedule but, assuming you want the band for after-dinner dancing, two 60-minute sets starting at 9:30pm is a fairly normal schedule to work to when you’re planning your evening. With a standard 30-minute interval half way through, you’ll be looking at a midnight finish. Please note that if the band or their DJ services are required after midnight, late fees can apply.

Will the band need to soundcheck when they arrive?

All bands will require a soundcheck and a 5pm-6pm arrival time and a 60-90 minute soundcheck is typically workable. It is generally best if the performance space is free of guests at this point but most bands can arrange a ‘noiseless’ line-check to keep the volume down if this isn’t possible.

What happens when there is an interval in the band’s sets?

During the break, all of our bands can supply music through their PA system to keep your party going. Some bands can also provide proper DJ sets before or after their performance – check their profile for more details.

We would love a particular song as our first dance, can the band play it for us?

Let us know if you have a request and, more often than not, bands will be able to make it work! If the band’s line-up or preparation time mean that it isn’t possible, they’ll be more than happy to play your first dance from an mp3 or Spotify through their own PA system.

Is there anything else we need to prepare for the band in advance?

Travelling, setting up and performing is hungry work! Do make sure your band has the food and drink they need to bring their best to your event. You’ll find specific details on your booking contract.

How can we save money on our wedding band?

  • Before you book more musicians for afternoon background music, check whether members of your wedding band can provide this – it'll save you additional costs, such as travel.
  • If you haven't yet set your wedding date, consider booking a midweek or winter wedding to take advantage of the most competitive rates.
  • Always consider hiring a band from your local area, to save on travel and accommodation costs. We have wedding music bands based in most major towns and cities across the UK.
