With celebrations now spanning the globe, from Argentina to Vietnam, Munich's traditional Oktoberfest has become a festival of epic proportions. The Bavarian Volksfest (beer festival and traveling funfair) began in 1810 and is now bigger than ever, with its unique combination of local beer, music and attractions, making it a festival of serious fun!

This year Oktoberfest runs from Saturday 19th September to Sunday 4th October – that's 16 whole days of celebration and plenty of time to fit in a party of your own!

Beer and music are the rudiments of any Oktoberfest celebration, with a whopping 6.5 million litres of beer consumed in Munich during the festivities last year. So with these being firm English favourites too, why not host your own Oktoberfest-inspired beer festival? Lederhosen and dirndl dresses define the look of this iconic Bavarian celebration, so what better excuse to dress up and get hair-plaiting?
