Our wedding ceremony took place in Kent in my parents' beautiful local church – it was so special to get married there.
We then had our wedding reception at Bradbourne House, a beautiful country house in Kent. We chose it partly for location but it also has such beautiful grounds, and lots of different rooms for different parts of the day to take place in, and in case it rained (which thankfully it didn't!). Sharon, who owns the venue, was amazing.
Mainly we just wanted people to remember having a really good party. We had an open bar, Jägermeister shots to get everyone in the party mood and lots of good food and cake to go with it!
Music was very important to us so we hired the amazing Royal Hospital Chelsea Choir for the ceremony and then the incredible Sweet & Lowdown for the drinks reception and the evening party. The acoustic set created the most wonderful atmosphere for the drinks reception – people enjoyed listening to them and it wasn't so loud that it drowned out the chat. Hopefully the day was quite relaxed as we didn't want anything to feel too formal.
A friend recommended Function Central as she had booked her wedding band with them. We found The Sweet & Lowdown on the Function Central site in their vintage bands section. It was such an easy process and we got responses to all our questions very quickly. To be honest, the main reason we booked with Function Central was because of how much we loved the band, and it was a very, very good decision!
We listened to clips of lots of bands but The Sweet & Lowdown were immediately our favourites as they did songs we loved in such a cool, original style. I knew they were "the one" when I found myself listening to their YouTube clip again and again and playing it to all my friends!
The Sweet and Lowdown did two hour-long sets in the evening. They also DJ'd until the end of the night. We really could not have been more thrilled with them.
When they played our first dance I was quite emotional as it was the most beautiful version of one of our favourite songs. And then the party got started and the dance-floor was full for the entire evening, which was a very impressive feat especially as it was so warm and lovely outside.
They were also really great to deal with the whole day and were so friendly to us and our guests. They played a good range of songs so everyone could dance – from our most trendy friends to my 91-year-old grandma!
The ceremony was magical, the speeches were great and our first dance was so so special. But probably the point where I was able to relax and just enjoy it was about half way through the first set of the band when I looked around and everyone was singing along and dancing really badly and clearly having such a good time!
