Smaller format 3- and 4-piece rock, pop and soul wedding bands (typically, vocals, guitar, drums and bass) continue to be our most in-demand options. These bands provide excellent value, and being small and guitar-based, they take up less floor space than bands featuring keyboard players and horns. They're also extremely versatile and typically will cover well-known songs from the 50s to the present, meaning they have something for everyone, from grand-children to grand-parents.
That said, this year we've seen bands featuring keyboards and synths increase in popularity – these bands are often better able to reproduce the latest pop and dance music from the likes of Mark Ronson, Avicci, Clean Bandit and Pharrell.
Smashing it at weddings, parties, corporate bashes and balls, Agent Smith are nothing short of a function phenomenon, with literally hundreds of events booked every year and a huge and growing fanbase. Their success hasn't gone to their heads either – they're a charming bunch, and tirelessly accommodating. Check them out on Facebook!
Over fifty couples are set to party down to Party Up this summer alone and we know why: fronted by a former UK soul star, and backed up by dazzling musicianship, Party Up play floor-fillers to suit your every musical whim: from pop, garage and house classics to gritty funk and soul, to rock and party anthems. Unquestionably the funkiest band in the South East!
This band say "bohemian" like no other wedding band. But we're not talking obscure gypsy jazz covers on bashed up guitars here – S&L put their own vintage stamp on the pop classics we all know and love. Listen to their eclectic demos on their Soundcloud page.
The lone jazz band appearing our top 10, Midnight Blue feature three of the best young jazz musicians in the UK and are a favourite at wedding breakfasts and receptions. This young and stylish trio offer up their own jazzy takes on pop classics – perfect for a spot of "name that tune" over a chilled Pimms! Book them as a trio for upbeat, jazzy sounds at a sensible volume. Or go all out and hire them as a 4-piece or 5-piece for after-dinner dancing.
Featuring the smooth, authentic soul vocals of a bona fide imported American soul star, With a large song-list packed with soul, funk and pop oldies and modern classics, Downtown Underground have been making serious waves this year in the North West. Check out their stunning new promo video here.
If you don't have the space or budget for Party Up or Downtown Underground's larger line-ups but are still looking for something supremely soulful and funky with a healthy dose of rock and pop anthems, Blue Juice are the band for you. Brighton-based, Blue Juice have been carving up the lion's share of south coast weddings this summer!
Typically the choice of our blue-chip corporate client base, The Capricorns have played at glamorous events from the Shard to the Atlantis in Dubai. They also happen to be one of most popular premium wedding bands in the UK, going down a storm at weddings at some of the poshest UK venues, including Ascot Racecourse, The Mandarin Oriental Knightsbridge and Hedsor House.
Rockit are our leading rock and pop 3-piece in the South East and are equally happy playing a fancy wedding as they are a 40th birthday bash in your back yard. The band have over 80 weddings booked this year at some of the most popular venues in the country, including Great Fosters, Taplow House, The Clock Barn, Lainston House, Dodmoor House and Cooling Castle.
Liverpudlians Hudson were raised on a diet of Merseybeat and have played with Paul McCartney and Gerry and The Pacemakers. But despite their Beatles connections, their repertoire doesn't start and end with "All My Loving" but continues through soul classics such as Higher and Higher and ending somewhere near "Ho Hey" by the Lumineers – enough to satisfy all generations and tastes.
Last but not least, The Breaks are our go-to wedding band in the South West. If you're looking for a big sound on a small budget, look no further. The Breaks deliver floor-filling rock and pop tunes in a neat 3-piece package and they've graced weddings at South West venues such as Tregenna Castle, St Ives Harbour Hotel, Lupton House and Lands End Hotel.
