The Black Velvet Band

The Black Velvet Band have been entertaining audiences for 25 years with their brand of popular Irish music, traditional songs and tunes but with the sound to get you up on your feet dancing. Universities or pubs, weddings or wakes.

The band bring along a caller who will guide you through the dances and get guests all pointing in the same direction. If you have never been to a ceilidh before, don't worry, the band dance and play to suit both new and experienced dancers.

The band were co-founded by Phil, who plays guitar and is the bands lead singer. His repertoire is influenced by some of the great Irish bands such as the Clancy Brothers, the Dubliners and the Wolfetones, and the singing of the legendary Irish ballad singers such as Paddy Reilly, Tommy Byrne and Ronnie Drew.

Sam joined the band in 2013 and bought an exciting blend of songs and instrumentation to the band, she plays fiddle, guitar, whistles and bodhran as well as some great songs.

Father and daughter, Samantha can be seen around the pubs too, singing country and rock classics as well as her own songs too and is a very talented songwriter in her own right.

Steve plays mandolin and banjo and leads the bands polkas, jigs and reels, and lends a tuneful addition to the songs too.

Sean joined the band in 2015 replacing Brendan as a driving force in the accompaniment of our songs, he plays with real energy and loves adding his voice to the choruses too.
