Alchemy Studio
Set by North London's New River, Alchemy Studio is an old Victorian coach house with its own courtyard and driveway. The studio has a large, light, live playing area and combines the use of ProTools, Valves and Tape. Alchemy's engineer Kenny Jones has impressive credits behind him, including The Smiths, Oasis and Bjork to name a few. Rates are reasonable and for the relentless recorder, an open-ended lockout day is just £250.
Also in North London is BonaFideStudio, a rehearsal, recording, and post-production studio with credits in everything from music videos to jingles. They pride themselves on exceptional sound quality and on constantly honing their techniques. Rehearsal time is available from £5 per hour, and recording from £20 per hour with engineer. The studio also runs music production courses and tutorials for children and adults.
One Louder Studios
The list of artists and bands who've recorded at One Louder Studios is quite extraordinary, from Nina Simone to Arcade Fire via Boy George and Chaka Khan.. The studio is five minutes from both Old Street and Liverpool Street, and set up with ProTools HD as well as vintage analogue equipment. The cherry on the top is their cafe's breakfast and fresh coffee!
New Money Studios
Buckinghamshire's New Money Studios houses a 15 x 35 ft acoustically treated recording booth with high quality equipment. With every recording session, the studio will include a free mix and master for each track recorded. New Money Studios also offer commercial and promotional video services, as well as music video filming and editing.
The Dugout Studios
Hampshire's Dugout Studios offer rehearsal space, recording facilities and impressively reasonable rates and offers. With the latest version of Protools for multitrack recording, and in house engineer with over fifteen years production experience, tracks are mixed to each artist's requirements. On top of that, every finished mix is then mastered to a professional standard at no extra cost. They're currently offering a mouthwatering 'live demo deal' – 3 hours of live playing in the studio and the finished result within days, for only £120.
Set in the beautiful Kent countryside but just an hour from London, Ten21 is a state-of-the-art studio for recording, mixing and mastering. The extensive playing experience and advice of owner and record producer Sean Kenny is available on top of the recording services. The studio also provides an abundance of advice on preparing for a session on their website, as well as setup tips for guitarists and other useful articles.
Room 2 Studios
Room 2 Studios' live room was originally designed by Queen and David Bowie's producer, Stuart Epps. Designed to provide a great sound, it's no wonder clients include BBC Sport, Channel 5, Universal Music and London Philharmonic Orchestra. There are two rehearsal rooms and tuition is also offered on piano, bass, drums, guitar, and post production.
Room With a View
Room With A View Studio in Hampshire is home to some extremely rare and original vintage keyboards, synthesizers and amplifiers as well as a 24 track Otari tape recorder. Clients include BBC, Sony BMG, Island Records and Universal and the studio's experienced engineer, Steve Smith, is also a session musician, song arranger/writer and producer. There's also a fully equipped flat above the studio for clients to settle in and get creative.
